   I began playing the guitar in 1959, aged 13, and it has been a hobby ever since.

   In the late 1960s I was heavily influenced by Ralph McTell and the folk scene, but in the 1980s I bought my first electric guitar and got into jazz.

   Some 20 years ago I started including the electric guitar in my public lectures on 'popular maths', to illustrate the mathematics of vibrating strings.
